Research Philosophy and Program

My scholarly journey has taken me across the globe from Nigeria, Vienna-Austria, Missouri-USA, Minnesota-USA, and Kumasi-Ghana. I believe that research results should find practical applications and consider resources in a way that does not compromise the environment or deplete the materials for the present and future generations. My research and project interests traverse the fields of smart manufacturing, nondestructive evaluation techniques; and engineering sustainability. These research areas are relatable in attempting to address challenging questions that face the 4th industrial revolution.

My scholarly activities have been presented both in the local, regional, national, and international settings. I presented my research findings on nondestructive evaluation at the International Conference on Smart Structures and Nondestructive Evaluation at Denver Colorado. Also, I have presented my research findings in both machining of composites and additive manufacturing severally at North American Manufacturing Research Conferences.

I have engaged 15 undergraduate students in research that supported their intellectual curiosity and encouraged discussion, debate and discovery through the UMN undergraduate research opportunity program (UROP). The research I mentored also provided an opportunity for the students to learn more about their chosen discipline and contributed to their body of knowledge. Most of the projects resulted to either oral or poster presentation of results at local or national setting such as National Conference for Undergraduate Research (NCUR). One of the projects led to development of flexible machine center for CNC milling and 3D printing. I have supervised four Master degree students in both mechanical and engineering management programs of MIE and have served on the examination thesis committee of eight graduate students in the college.

Two years prior, in 2017, we won national first place in developing all terrain load carrying vehicle (LCV) that provides stealth while ensuring versatility of travel for special operation force. Over the past twenty years of my tenure at MIE, I have been in involved as co-mentor of over 500 engineering design capstone research/projects that have accumulated to over $1 Million in consultation and capital fees with local, regional, and national industries.
